Cross country

It was ‘welcome back’ to the cross country running season with the Sussex XC  Relays at Goodwood on Saturday 25th September. 

In the true spirit of cross country,  the rain made an appearance making the hilly terrain challenging underfoot for the runners. 

The Eastbourne Rover juniors put in impressive team performances amongst the larger rival clubs such as Crawley & Brighton & Hove.  The Eastbourne boys & girls under 13 teams clinched Sussex silver medals holding off attempts from Brighton & Hove.

Freda Pearce charged through the course with the fastest under 13 girls lap time (2 seconds ahead of Bibi Webb of Crawley). 

Fin Lumber - Fry had the 5th fastest individual lap in his under 13 age group. 

In the V45 age category, Sue Fry, Liz Lumber & Anna Chaplain claimed the gold medal ahead of Arena 80. Anna put in a very strong run as her debut to the Sussex cross country events. 

Liz Lumber claimed 1st fastest individual lap in the V55 age group. 

Other fine performances came from the under 17 girls team of Eleanor Strevens, Eleanor McClean & Isabelle Chappell. 

James Steven ran an impressive 7th quickest relay lap time in the under 17 boy category. His team mate  Ilya Korchev & Kaleb Berhane ran well in the under 15 age group finishing 16th & 20th. 

Coaches Jenny Brown & Chris Voice were both pleased at their squads performances & are looking forward to the forthcoming cross country season.
