YOUNG ATHLETES' LEAGUE This is a national competition divided into divisions (like football). We will be putting forward the club's best athletes as this year we want to win and be promoted! It is hoped that most athletes will get the chance to attend, but we are going to put our best team forward for each fixture. February 2006 Inter-Counties U17s perform for Sussex
The afternoon got off to a good start as Sam Caplen knocked .4 off his personal best in the 400m hurdles recording 62.45 secs. He ran a superb first half showing his excellent technique in clearing the hurdles but his break of 2 weeks holiday showed as he lacked stamina in the home straight. Up against the winner of English Schools this year he was pleased with his 6th position. Laura Grover was next competing over the 300m hurdles. Her stride pattern is improving between the hurdles as she ran an even paced race, pleased to dip under 50 secs in 49.9 and 4th place. Lucy Lintott has another year in this age group[ so was thrilled to be asked to compete in the sprint hurdles. Her speed in between the hurdles brought her through to 13.6 secs and6th place. She also came in at the last minute for the 100m, 200m and relay so had a busy afternoon. Sarah Moore enjoyed the chance to have a go at the 100m. she was pleased with her 13.6 crossing the line in 6th place. Sarah has had a hectic season and this showed as she was well down on her best in the high jump. However she now has a month to regain her form as she has been chosen to represent the South East at the mini Olympics in Glasgow in September. Sach Henty had an impressive run in the 400m. He led from the start and after cruising down the back straight found another gear to stay ahead crossing the line just outside his personal best in 51.85. His consistency shows his strength and he still has another year in this age group.
Becky Woods ran a tactical 800m. She managed to get herself out of trouble as girls cut across at the break point and slotted into 3rd place. The pace was very fast on the first lap and she was tiring at the finish but ran a respectable 2m28.06 secs and came 6th. Seb Roger showed his versatility tackling the 100m hurdles. Using this as a good practice for his multi event championships he came 4th in 15.3 secs. Amy Martin continues to improve her sprinting skills and ran in the 200m and relay. Eight young athletes from Eastbourne Rovers under 11s squad travelled to Burgess Hill to compete for the Sussex Sportshall team in the Norwich Union Fun in Athletics South East Regional Festival. This is the first year Eastbourne Rovers have taken part in the Sportshall competition and these children were picked from the local events at Horsham to compete for the Sussex team. There were 8 teams in total competing from Kent, Surrey and Sussex and They had to test their ability on balance, standing long jump, speed bounce, throws and several different obstacle relays. The winners of the boys team event were the Kent Hoppers and the girls team event was won by Malling and Sevenoaks. Although the Sussex team didn`t win the children from Eastbourne Rovers enjoyed the experience and had a great day out.If you would like to join Eastbourne Rovers Under 11s contact Jayne
